Couples Therapy

Couples therapy is a great way to learn how to communicate during times of conflict without fighting.

Many times when couples disagree at home, they communicate defensively to one another resulting either in escalation or a complete shut- down.

When couples come to my office, I take the time to see them individually for a few sessions to give each person the opportunity to voice their concerns and then when the time is right, I start seeing them together guiding them through a healthy discussion about their conflict.

My method includes describing feelings and perspective without using defensiveness, criticism, contempt, or stonewalling.

In my sessions, couples also learn how to make each other feel heard and understood using reflection and empathetic statements.

Expressing the parts of the issue that you agree on and sometimes even feel regret for, as opposed to arguing the differences creates connection and strength in relationships.
